Never mind... found it. clicked monitor backups, then stop backup. System said "no backup was running", then I had a "start backup now" button.

Did the "backup now" button disappear? I want to do an upgrade to 3.3.1 and want to back up first, but I can't find the button to "backup now"

Gday Diyan,

This feature has been requested a lot however it is not something that will work with everyone.

I am planning to get it into a version in the future. Watch this space!

Cheers,
Mikey

Gday Dereck,

Awesome work getting to the bottom of this issue.

If you could put your extra code into a pull request on GitHub that would be awesome. That way I can review it and consider adding it as a feature.

Cheers,
Mikey

Thanks for your efforts on this. I really want it to work, but have installed this plugin on 9 sites and only two of them seem to ever complete a backup. Like many others here, I keep getting the messages about Backup Started and then Backup error The backup process appears to have gone away. Resuming backup. Never a complete message and there are no files on Dropbox in the folder where it is directed to backup.

I wanted to share my experience with this plugin for the author (Mikey) and other users who might be having similar issues as I had.

I tried the WordPress Backup to Dropbox and didn't have any luck at first - similar to some of the users here - and I wasn't sure what the plug-in was getting held up on. After some research, it appeared to me that the StatPress plug-in that I'm using just had too much data in the table that it was using and it was taking too long (maybe timing out?) trying to grab all of that data.

Given that this data really isn't important for a backup (to me, in my opinion), I decided to write some extra code which would allow me to configure a list of database tables to exclude from the backup, and I added this table to that list. Once I did this - then the backup started to work like magic and I haven't had any problems since! Both the website files and the database export are being backed up now and it's working great.

I would guess that other users might have this or a similar statistics plug-in installed which may be causing errors. Mikey - you may want to consider adding this type of configuration to the plug-in, or if you'd like I can send you the code/adjustments that I made if that helps.

Regardless, now that I've got things working I have to say this plug-in is slick and is working well - thank you for sharing this with the community!

Best,

Derek Lee

Hey Mike,

I really enjoy the plugin but can you please an option to gzip and then upload?

Having all these dropbox notifications is quite odd

Thanks!
Keep up the great work!
